TANZANIA ROYAL SAFARI & ZANZIBAR ITINERARY

12 Days

Important Information:
1.Entry requirements: A visa is required to enter Tanzania (https://visa.immigration.go.tz/)

  1. Your passport must be valid for six month after your date of arrival and ensure you have at least 4 blank pages for immigration.
  2. Visit your health clinic or doctor to determine if any inoculations are required.
  3. Yellow fever vaccine & Anti-malaria protection may be required. Consult your health clinic or doctor.
  4. Travel Insurance is essential
  5. Plastic bags of any kind are not allowed
  6. Safari vehicles are not air conditioned.
  7. Roads in East Africa are very bumpy and dusty.
    9.The driving distances are an estimation so please use this as a guideline.
  8. Luggage: We wish to remind all Passengers that due to the limited luggage compartment, we encourage the use of soft duffel bags.

Day 01 :
ARRIVE KILIMANJARO KILIMANJARO – ARUSHA

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, clear customs and immigration. Canadian passport holders are required to have a valid passport and visa to enter Tanzania.
Pick up your checked luggage then walk to the arrival hall where you are welcomed by a Tourcan Vacations representative holding a paging board with your name on it.
You will be assisted with your luggage then transferred to your hotel in Arusha for check in.

Day 02 :
ARUSHA / LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Check out of the hotel after breakfast and you are transferred to Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that shimmers in a cleft in the Great Rift Valley. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge.

This afternoon you set out on your first game drive in the park regarded by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”.
Lake Manyara National Park lies at the base of the western wall of the eastern arm of the Rift Valley. Typically shimmering in a golden heat haze, the lake is often frosted with thousands of flamingos, while the trees that surround the lake are famous for their tree-climbing lions. The park also offers abundant sightings of; monkey, jackal, mongoose, hyena, hyrax, zebra, hippo, warthog, buffalo, Masai giraffe, duiker, waterbuck and impala. Significant numbers of elephant are also resident in the Park whilst sightings of black rhino and leopard are not uncommon. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 03 :
LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK / NGORONGORO CRATER

Return to Lake Manyara Park for an early safari when the wildlife is most active. After lunch continue to another stunning location, your lodge on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. This beautifully designed in African rondavel style that blends seamlessly with its environment; your lodge looks out on one of the most spectacular panoramas in Africa, viewed from extensive terraces and each room’s private balcony. Enjoy ‘sundowner’ cocktails and dinner around a cozy log fire, take in a Maasai cultural program, and watch for wildlife roaming through the surrounding montane forest.

Day 04 :
NGORONGORO CRATER

Set out with a picnic lunch for a thrilling safari in the Ngorongoro Crater. Formed from the collapse of an extinct volcano that would have rivaled Mt. Kilimanjaro in size and grandeur, the caldera’s 102-square-mile floor is now home to the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa. Watch for rhinoceros, hippo, elephant, warthog, predatory lion and hyena, and an array of plains game ranging from dik-dik to wildebeest, zebra and gazelles. At the lowest spot in the Crater, Lake Magadi is often filled with water birds, particularly flamingos.
Don’t be surprised to see red-robed Maasai herding their cattle and goats in the crater as they have for centuries.

Day 05 :
NGORONGORO / OLDUVAI GORGE / SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Travel today to the world-famous Serengeti National Park, stopping en route at Olduvai Gorge, site of the Leakey family’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Game-view all the way to your luxury lodge, a showcase of African art beautifully set on a ridge overlooking the central Seronera Valley. Millions of animals and birds thrive in the park’s sprawling savannahs and hilly woodlands, including the largest concentration of plains animals in the world. This is also the site of the massive annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, but at all times of year the resident populations of animals are excellent. This afternoon enjoy a classic game run in search of the large prides of lion, and teeming herds of antelope, buffalo and wildebeest.

Day 06 :
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (CENTRAL)

Explore an ever-changing landscape of kopjes, gallery forests, and water holes on your morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti. Search for rare leopard and cheetah, wild dog and African cat, big herds of buffalo, giraffe, eland, topi, reedbuck, waterbuck and impala, and countless small mammals and unique birds. Between outings return to your lodge for lunch and leisure time to swim, take a guided nature walk, or meet local Maasai people in their village. You also have the option to forego your morning game drive for an optional hot air balloon safari, ending with a champagne breakfast on the plain.

Day 07 :
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (CENTRAL – WESTERN)

The excitement builds as you venture from the Central Serengeti to the secluded Western Corridor. Watch for wildlife in the riverine forest including leopard, black and white colobus monkey, and the famous giant crocodile of the Grumeti River, including the permanent waters at Kirawira. In season, vast processions of migratory wildebeest lunge across these waters in a dramatic, life-and-death display. There are also hippo to observe and profusion of birds. Arrive at your exclusive camp in this exciting location. Dine under starlight and let the distant cricket chirps and lions’ roars lull you to sleep under canvas in the style of ‘Old Africa’.

Day 08 :
SERENGETI – WESTERN CORRIDOR/ARUSHA – ZANZIBAR

After early morning game drive, drive to the camp for breakfast – Proceed to Grumeti Airstrip for your flight to Arusha. On arrival enjoy lunch at a local restaurant then you are transferred to Arusha airport to board the flight to Zanzibar (airfare is extra).

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your Beach Resort for check in.
Dinner is included.
Overnight: Marijani Beach Resort and Spa or Similar
Meal: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 09 - 11 :
ZANZIBAR

These days will be spent at leisure for you to enjoy the white sandy beach of Zanzibar and sunshine at your luxurious beach resort. You may also partake in optional beach activities which can be arranged at an extra cost.
All meals and overnight at the resort.

Day 12 :
DEPART ZANZIBAR

Check out of the resort after breakfast and you are transferred to Zanzibar airport to start your homebound journey.
